III. FREE TORSIONAL VIBRATIONS

INTRODUCNON

As we have already discussed, when the shaft is twisted and untwisted alternately, then torsional shear stresses are induced. This twisting and untwisting movements are known as torsional vibrations. In this case, the particles of the body move in a circle about the axis of the shaft, as shown in Fig.14.33.

In the following sections, the frequency of torsional vibrations of various systems have been discussed.
