Following are the rules of dimensioning generally followed while dimensioning a drawing.

Circles : A circle may be dimensioned by its diameter represented by the symbol ϕ or by its Radius represented by the letter R.

The systems of dimensioning are explained in the previous section, but the dimensions can be arranged in any one of the following ways when the dimensions are in series.

Two different systems of dimensioning are recommended by Bureau of Indian Standards as i) Aligned system and ii) Unidirectional system

The art of writing the alphabets A, B, C etc. and the numbers such as 1, 2, 3, etc. is known as lettering.
