Representative Fraction (R.F)

Engineering Graphics (EG)

Representative fraction is defined as the ratio of the length of an element of the object in the drawing to the corresponding actual length of the corresponding element of the object.

REPRESENTATIVE FRACTION (R.F)

Representative fraction is defined as the ratio of the length of an element of the object in the drawing to the corresponding actual length of the corresponding element of the object. In short, Representative fraction is simply defined as the ratio of the drawing size to the actual size of the object, both expressed in same units. It is denoted (abbreviated) as R.F.

⸫ Representative fraction = Drawing size / Actual size

R.F is a ratio (since both drawing size and actual size are measured in same units) and has no units.

Note :

R.F is equal to 1 for Full size scale

R.F is less than 1 for Reduced scale

R.F is greater than 1 for Enlarged scale
