Standard Scales, recommended by BIS are readily available in sets of 8 scales, for the use in engineering practice.
CONSTRUCTION OF SCALES Standard Scales, recommended by BIS are readily available in sets of 8 scales, for the use in engineering practice. These scales are called Drafter's scales, designated as M1 to M8 as detailed below. When it is required to measure (or) draw a measurement in proportion other than these standard set, special scales are to be constructed according to the proportion required to be used in a particular drawing.
