Relation between Lattice Constant (a) and Density (ρ)

Crystal Physics

In M gram of material, there are N molecules i.e., mass of N molecules is M gram.

Relation between Lattice Constant (a) and Density (ρ)

Let

a = Lattice constant of a crystal material,

ρ = Density of the crystal,

n = Number of atoms per unit cell,

M = Molecular weight of the crystal material, and

N = Avagadro number = 6.023 × 1023 mole-1

In M gram of material, there are N molecules i.e., mass of N molecules is M gram.

⸫ Mass of n molecules (i.e., mass of unit cell) = n × M / N                  ... (i)

But we know that, Mass density = Mass/Volume
