Consider a thin plate of area A and thickness t as shown in Fig. 7.3.1.

• Consider a thin plate of area A and thickness t as shown in Fig. 7.3.1.


• Let Ix, Iy and Iz be the mass moments of inertia about X, Y and Z axes respectively, and Ixx,Iyy and Izz are the moments of inertia.


where ρ is the density.


• For the rectangular plate of thickness t as shown in Fig. 7.3.2,


From equation (7.3.1),


Similarly from equations (7.3.2) and (7.3.3),


• For the circular plate of thickness t and radius r as shown in Fig. 7.3.3,


• The moments of inertia of those disc elements will be used to determine moments of inertia of bodies by single integration.
