DIMENSIONING - INTRODUCTION

The main objective of engineering drawing is to represent the correct shape and size of the object in an understandable manner. Engineering drawing is the language of engineers, used by the designers and architects to the persons involved in manufacturing or construction site to execute the work. Hence the drawing must be prepared in accordance to the standards so that it can be read without any confusion. To define the geometric characteristics such as length; width, height, radius etc., dimensions are used. The process of indicating this features by the use of lines, numerals, symbols, etc. is known as Dimensioning. This section deals with the dimensioning techniques and general principles of dimensioning as per Indian standards IS 11669 : 1986 and SP 46 : 2003.
