Fluid Mechanics and Machinery: Unit 4: Turbines

Turbines

Introduction

Turbines are machines which converts fluid power to shaft power, which rotates generators to provide electric power. Depending upon the fluid used, the turbines are known as hydraulic turbines, steam turbines and Gas turbines.

INTRODUCTION

Turbines are machines which converts fluid power to shaft power, which rotates generators to provide electric power. Depending upon the fluid used, the turbines are known as hydraulic turbines, steam turbines and Gas turbines. This chapter is confined to hydraulic turbines such as pelton wheel, Francis turbine and kaplan turbine.
