Introduction

• A force system, in a plane, in which the lines of action of all forces intersect at a single point is called coplanar concurrent force system.

• The coplanar concurrent force system can be reduced to a single force called the point of concurrence of the given force system. Hence such force systems can produce only translational motion of objects on which they act.

• In this chapter, the resolution and composition of coplanar concurrent forces is discussed using different methods. As force is a vector quantity, the methods discussed in chapter 1 for vectors are all applicable for resolution and composition of forces.
