Outward Flow Reaction Turbine

The construction details of this turbine are similar to the inward flow reaction turbine.

OUTWARD FLOW REACTION TURBINE

The construction details of this turbine are similar to the inward flow reaction turbine. But in this turbine, moving vanes surround guide vanes and water from the casing flows to the outward direction from guide yanes to runner vanes at the outward as shown in figure 5.17.

The stationary guide wheel with its guide vanes directs the water to enter the runner. Here inlet is at the inner diameter D1 of the runner and the outlet is at the outer diameter D2. The velocity diagram of the outward flow reaction turbine will be drawn in the same manner as that for the inward flow turbine, the work is done by the water on the runner per second, the power developed and hydraulic - efficiency will be obtained from the velocity triangles. The this turbine, as the inlet diameter (D1) of the runner is less than the outlet diameter (D2).

D1 < D2
