FREEHAND SKETCHING OF MULTIPLE VIEWS FROM PICTORIAL VIEWS

The procedure of drawing multiview orthographic projections from the given pictorial view of the objects were explained in detail in the previous chapter. In general the freehand sketches of multiviews are initially prepared by the designer / engineer for the preparation of neat drawings with scales.

Following steps are normally followed while preparing the freehand sketch of multiviews of a three dimensional object.

1. Read the object thoroughly and decide the overall dimensions of the object.

2. Decide a suitable scale (approximately) to draw the multiviews.

3. Decide the overall dimensions of front view, top view and side view.

4. Draw the rectangles to draw the front view, top view and side view taking the overall dimensions of the views.

5. Draw the views by following the steps for symmetrical or unsymmetrical object. (Refer articles 10.4.5. and 10.4.6.)

6. Always draw the front view first and then draw the top view.

7. Finally draw the side view and darken all the views.

Note:

1. All the rules and specifications related to lines, lettering and dimensioning recommended by B.I.S. should be followed for freehand sketching also.

2. The method of placing the multiviews and their constructions explained in the previous chapter should be followed for freehand sketching.

3. For speedy work, guidelines need not be used for lettering and open arrowheads may be used.
