Fluid Mechanics and Machinery: Unit 1: Fluid Properties and Flow Characteristics

Fluid Mechanics

Introduction

Mechanics is a science dealing with the motion of bodies and the conditions governing such motion. Therefore fluid mechanics is that branch of science which deals with the properties, behavior of the fluids (Liquids or gases) at rest as well as in motion.

FLUID MECHANICS

Introduction:

Mechanics is a science dealing with the motion of bodies and the conditions governing such motion. Therefore fluid mechanics is that branch of science which deals with the properties, behavior of the fluids (Liquids or gases) at rest as well as in motion. This science deals with the static, kinematic and dynamic aspects of fluids. The study of fluids at rest is called fluid statics. The study of fluid in motion, where pressure forces are not considered, is called fluid kinematics and if the pressure forces are also considered for the fluid in motion that branch of science is called fluid dynamics.
