There are three essential types of control valves based on their configuration or modes of operation. They are:

There are three essential types of control valves based on their configuration or modes of operation. They are:

1. Poppet (or seat) valves,

2. Sliding spool valves, and

3. Rotary spool valves.

A brief understanding of these valve configurations are essential before discussing the construction and operation of different types of control valves.
