A fluid power circuit is an arrangement of interconnected components (such as pumps/compressors, actuators, control valves, and pipings), selected to achieve the desired work output.
Unit - 5 Trouble Shooting and Applications Chapter 16: System Design of Hydraulic and Pneumatic Circuits for Industrial Applications Chapter 17: Fluid Power Circuits: Failure and Troubleshooting Chapter: 16 System Design of Hydraulic/Pneumatic Circuits for Industrial Applications "Art without engineering is dreaming. Engineering without art is calculating." - Steven Roberts "Design is not how it looks and feels like. Design is how it works." - Steve Jobs "I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do. - Leonardo da Vinci While reading and after studying this chapter, you will be able to: • Design and explain the hydraulic circuits for various industrial applications viz., drilling machine, shaping machine, surface grinding machine, press and forklift applications. • Design and describe the pneumatic circuits for pick and place gripper actuation and for tool handling in CNC machine tool. • Describe various selection criteria for hydraulic/pneumatic components. • Design and select different components in a hydrau- lic circuit for the given application requirement. • Appreciate the importance and concept of low cost automation. • Explain the various components of hydraulic and pneumatic power packs. • A fluid power circuit is an arrangement of interconnected components (such as pumps/compressors, actuators, control valves, and pipings), selected to achieve the desired work output. • The essential components required for a hydraulic and pneumatic circuit designs are presented already in Chapters 8 and 13 respectively. • Also the important factors should be considered while designing hydraulic and pneumatic circuits are presented in Sections 8.2.3 and 13.2.3 respectively. • It may be noted that several hydraulic circuits are presented in Sections 8.3 to 8.15, Chapter 8. Similarly various pneumatic circuits are presented in Sections 13.3 to 13.12, Chapter 13. In this chapter, we shall discuss analysis and system design of hydraulic and pneumatic circuits for industrial applications. At the end, the introduction to low cost automation and hydraulic & pneumatic power packs are presented.Learning Objectives
