Engineering Graphics: Unit V (a): Isometric Projection

Terminology

Isometric Projection | Engineering Graphics (EG)

The isometric planes are basically classified into three categories as i) Left Isometric Plane (ie., BCGF) ii) Right Isometric Plane (ie., CDHG) and iii) Top Isometric Plane (ie., ABCD)

TERMINOLOGY

1. Isometric Axes: The axis about which the three dimensions (length, breadth and depth) are marked, which are making an angle of 120° with each other are called isometric axes (ie., CB, CD and CG).

2. Isometric Lines: The lines which are parallel to isometric axes are called isometric lines. (ie., GH, BA, FG, FB etc.)

3. Non-Isometric Lines: The lines which are not parallel to isometric axes are called as Non- Isometric lines (ie., AC, BD, FH etc.)

4. Isometric Planes: The planes which are representing the faces of the cube as well as other planes parallel to these planes are called as Isometric planes. (ie., ABCD, CDHG, BCGF etc.)

The isometric planes are basically classified into three categories as

i) Left Isometric Plane (ie., BCGF)

ii) Right Isometric Plane (ie., CDHG) and

iii) Top Isometric Plane (ie., ABCD)
