A single slider-crank chain is a modification of a basic four-bar chain. It consists of one sliding pair and the three turning pairs.

SINGLE SLIDER-CRANK CHAIN

A single slider-crank chain is a modification of a basic four-bar chain. It consists of one sliding pair and the three turning pairs.

The single slider-crank chain is used to convert reciprocating motion into rotary motion and vice versa.

The most familiar form of a slider-crank chain is that of the reciprocating steam engine mechanism, as shown in Fig. 1.33.

The four links of the single slider-crank chain are:

1. Frame: The fixed link is known as frame.

2. Crank: A link that makes complete revolutions is called as crank.

3. Connecting rod: The link opposite to the fixed link is known as connecting rod.

4. Slider: A link that reciprocates is called as slider.
