• The selection of hydraulic/pneumatic circuit components, criteria for selection of hydraulic/pneumatic components and system design of hydraulic/pneumatic circuits are presented in this chapter.

• Low cost automation is defined as a technology that creates some degree of automation around the existing equipment, tools, methods and people, using mostly standard components available in the market.

• A hydraulic power pack is a self-contained (stand-alone unit) that is used instead of built-in power supply for hydraulic machinery.

• Components of a hydraulic power pack are: (i) a hydraulic reservoir, (ii) regulators; (iii) pressure supply lines and relief lines; (iv) a pump; and (v) a motor.

• A pneumatic power pack is a self-contained (stand-alone unit) that is used instead of built-in power supply for pneumatic machinery.

• Components of a pneumatic power pack are: (i) a motor, (ii) a compressor; (iii) an air cooler; (iv) an air dryer; and (v) a FRL unit.
