Drawing of sectional views is an extension of projections of solids.

PROCEDURE OF DRAWING SECTIONAL VIEW

Drawing of sectional views is an extension of projections of solids. Hence the procedure explained in previous chapters may be followed but introducing the cutting plane and drawing sectional surface. The procedure of drawing sectional view is described below:

1. Draw the projections of the full solid in the required position using thin lines.

2. Mark the given section plane ie., the trace of the cutting plane in the appropriate view (Refer article 15.5)

3. Project from all the points of intersection of the section plane and the boundaries to the other side of the reference line. This gives the points for the boundary of the sectioned surface.

4. Assume that the portion between the section plane and the observer is removed and complete the remaining portion in the sectioned view by drawing the boundary of the sectioned surface and the view of the remaining portion by thick lines.

5. Complete the other view in which the trace of the section plane is marked using proper line types.

6. Print the given dimensions and details.

7. Hatch the sectioned surface.
