ORTHOGRAPHIC VIEWS OF A POINT

The Vertical plane VP and the horizontal plane HP are transparent and assumed to be infinitive in size.

Let a point A is located in First Quadrant. If the point is projected on the vertical plane by the horizontal projector (Fig. 11.4a), then the image of the point, known as the projection, obtained on the vertical plane is the front view of the point, a'.

If the point is projected on the horizontal plane by the vertical projector (Fig. 11.4b), then the image of the point, known as the projection, obtained on the horizontal plane is the top view of the point, a.

If the point is projected on the profile plane by the projector which is parallel to the reference axis (ie, the intersection of the planes VP and HP), then the image of the point, obtained on the profile plane is known as the side view of the point a". (Fig. 11.4c).

Note that the horizontal projector is perpendicular to the vertical plane and the vertical projector is perpendicular to the horizontal plane and the projector parallel to XY axis is perpendicular to the profile plane.
