METHODS OF KINEMATIC ANALYSIS
• The velocity and
acceleration of links in a mechanism can be determined by any one of the
following two methods.
1. Graphical method
2. Analytical (also
known as algebraic) method
• With the advent of
calculators and computers, analytical methods are becoming more convenient and
popular. However, the graphical methods are essential in developing a
conceptual understanding about the subject. Thus in academics, the graphical
methods are widely used.
• From the syllabus point
of view, the following methods of kinematic analysis of mechanisms are
presented in this chapter, one by one.
1. Relative velocity
method (Graphical method)
2. Relative
acceleration method (Graphical method)
3. Instantaneous
centre method for velocity analysis (Graphical method) 4. Analytical method for
velocity and acceleration of four-bar mechanism.
5. Analytical method
for velocity and acceleration of slider-crank mechanism
