Introduction to Rectilinear Motion

Kinematics is the study of motion without reference to the cause of motion, i.e. force.

• Rectilinear motion is motion along a straight line.

Throughout our discussion, all objects will be treated as particles.

• The rotational motion of objects is not considered. Only their translational motion in two dimensions either rectilinear or curvilinear will be discussed in this book.

The present chapter deals with only the rectilinear motion of particles.
