FLUID ENERGY IN MOTION

The total fluid energy in motion may be classified into three types. They are:

1. Potential energy (or potential head): This is due to configuration or position above some suitable datum line. It is denoted by z.

2. Kinetic energy (or velocity head) : This is due to the velocity of flowing fluid. It is measured as V2/2g where V is the velocity of flow.

3. Pressure energy (or pressure head): This is due to the pressure of liquid. It is measured as P/w where P is the pressure and w is the weight density of the liquid.
