CLASSIFICATION OF HYDRAULIC PUMPS

Fig.4.2 shows the classification of hydraulic pumps with reference to the fluid power applications.


Pumps in general are classified in three different ways as below.

A. Classification of pumps based on principle of operation

1. Non-positive displacement (hydro-dynamic) pumps, and 

2. Positive displacement (hydro-static) pumps.

B. Classification of pumps based on delivery 

1. Constant delivery pumps, and

2. Variable delivery pumps.

C. Classification of pumps based on motion

1. Rotary pumps, and

2. Reciprocating pumps.
